The kitchen is where most people start, but we refinish cabinets all over the house:

We work with oak, cherry and maple, and with shaker, slab, raised panel and inset doors, as well as custom millwork. Oak cabinets get a second coat of primer to fill in the dark shadows in the grain. You will still see some oak texture, and the color comes out solid and even.

Here is how a north side cabinet job runs from the first morning to the walkthrough.

We protect the room first. Floors, counters and appliances get covered with X-board, paper, plastic and painter's masking, so paint lands only on the cabinets.

We clean with degreaser. Warm water and degreaser take off the cooking oils that keep paint from bonding.

Doors and drawer fronts leave the house. Each one is labeled and taken down to the spray booth at our Indianapolis office in Greenwood. That is where they get their factory-style finish.

We sand and prime. Every surface is sanded to etch the old finish, then primed with a bonding primer that also blocks stains.

Two coats of 1K waterborne polyurethane. The doors get theirs in the booth. The cabinet boxes are finished in place in your kitchen.

Everything goes back up. Doors are rehung and aligned, your hardware goes back on (or new hardware does), the room is cleaned, and we walk through the finished kitchen with you.

Because the doors are gone to the booth, your kitchen stays usable for most of the project. The main cabinet painting page answers the most common questions, like what to empty out first.

A cabinet refresh is a good time to finish the look. We can:

• Install crown molding on your upper cabinets
• Add custom accents, like shiplap on the island
• Put on new handles and pulls, or clean and reinstall the ones you have
• Swap in soft-close hinges, which catch the door near the end of its swing and ease it shut quietly

No coating lasts forever, even with the best products and process. So we provide touch-ups for product failure or normal wear and tear, at no cost, for as long as you own the home. Cabinet work also carries a 5-year labor warranty.
