Carpentry and wood rot repair in Bloomington, IN

Many Bloomington houses have stood for 50 to 100 years, and wood that old collects damage that no coat of paint can reverse. When upkeep has been put off for a few seasons, the problems grow. Each Indiana winter of freezing and thawing cracks more caulk and paint. Water gets in through those cracks, the wood behind them softens, and the paint over it starts to fail.

For a lot of homeowners, the first step toward an exterior paint job is finding out what is wrong with the surface. We do that assessment at the estimate, so the repairs are planned before the painting is.

Most of our carpentry is on the outside of the house, where the weather does the most damage.

Wood rot. Rotted wood has to come out before it spreads, and soft wood can draw pests. We cut out the damaged material, treat the area and replace it with sound wood that is ready for primer.

Trim. Trim that is cracked, split or missing gets fixed or swapped out during exterior prep.

Siding. Damaged boards are replaced, from a single board to a larger section, so the new paint has a solid surface to grip.

Fascia and soffits. Soft or rotted boards along the roofline are cut out and replaced before we paint.

Porches and railings. Porch trim and railings are repaired so the porch can be painted with the rest of the house.

Inside the house. Baseboards, casing and similar interior trim can be repaired too. Bring those up at your estimate and we will add them to the scope.

During the estimate, we check the trim, siding, fascia and porch wood around the whole house. What we find is written into the scope before work starts.

It shows which items are painting, which are carpentry and why each repair is needed, so you can see exactly where your money goes.
